Unframed limited edition print "New Kids in Town" featuring the 1st combat of USAAF Bell Airacobra's in the SWPA.

Print description: On 5 April 1942, a detachment of five 36th Fighter Squadron (USAAF) P-39 Airacobras arrived at Port Moresby primarily to gain experience in combat, and to learn from the 75 Squadron (RAAF) pilots engaging the Japanese. The following day 1Lt Louis Meng & 1Lt Charles Faletta (pictured) joined nine 75 Squadron P-40s on patrol over the town & engaged seven Japanese bombers with fighter escort. Although both attacks on the bombers by the American's were seemingly ineffectual, Meng, who's attack preceded Faletta's attack by a few minutes, became the first American fighter pilot to engage the Japanese over Port Moresby. This was also the first combat by an Airacobra in the SWPA. 75 Squadron P-40 pilot F/O Pete Masters is seen diving out of the combat after being attacked from the rear. Masters damaged a bomber during the engagement.

Unframed limited edition print of RAAF 76 Squadron Kittyhawks during the Battle of Milne Bay.

Print Description: WWII RAAF ten victory ace S/Ldr Peter Turnbull DFC flying Kittyhawk "Abdul the Bull" (A29-39 IW) leads his 76 Squadron aircraft in an early morning strafing attack on Japanese positions on 27 August 1942 during the Battle of Milne Bay. Turnbull, believing he had spotted a Japanese tank which had been wreaking havoc on Australian troops, returned in the afternoon to attempt to destroy it. However on making his first attack with guns blazing he failed to pull out of the dive. His aircraft flicked onto its back and crashed into the jungle, almost certainly killing him instantly. For the Japanese their attempt to capture the Allied base at Milne Bay would lead to the Japanese Army's first major defeat of the war. Action by RAAF 75 & 76 squadron Kittyhawks was described as the decisive factor in the Allied victory. Turnbulls death remains as an enduring symbol of the RAAFs sacrifice & effort during the battle.
